Considering Trexperience? READ THIS!

We arrived in Cusco on Aug 22, 2026 for our 4 day private luxury Inca Trail trip with Trexperience only to discover that the previous week's torrential rains (unprecedented for this time of year) had resulted in tragedy in the mountains. Deaths on both the Inca Trail and the Salkantay route, along with enormous damage to the Inca Trail itself had resulted in the government closing the Inca Trail for an indefinite period of time. So there we were, in Cusco, after spending 9 months training for this trip, and we couldn't go. Thanks to Trexperience, and some quick thinking, by the end of that day, we had changed our plans to do the 5 day Salkantay trek instead. This was a major shift in logistics and support for Trexperience to arrange. Trexperience's flexibility and quick action saved our trip. In addition, we were treated like royalty by our local, expert guide Edy "El Puma" Pumacahua. Edy grew up in the mountains speaking the native Quechua and was a proud and excellent ambassador for his wonderful culture. In addition, when a member of our party needed some extra help with the high pass and steep descents (we are not young) he went above and beyond to ensure safe travel. Daniel our cook produced absolutely incredible meals (out of a tent!) day after day that surpassed anything we had in some of the highest rated restaurants in Cusco and Ollantaytambo. Before this trip, we wouldn't have believed food like that was possible on a trek like this. Marily Zoraida, our massage therapist, somehow repaired our tired bodies each night and always had a smile to greet us when she went zipping by on the trail to arrive at camp before us to set up. Our porters and muleteers completed the picture. While they were working very hard, it also showed that they were loving their job and, we believe, were being treated ethically by Trexperience. This is a 100% local company, run and staffed by locals who know these mountains inside and out. When we go back, they will be our choice again.

5 days, unreal team, unreal leaders and guides, chef team was perfect. And no complaints what so ever.

First off.. our guide tony and Efrain.. they are absolutely AMAZING!!!! Their ability to accommodate each individual, each individuals camp site, food, any issues, and never left anyone last in the walking line. Very very good team comradary. If we could have extended our trip a few more days just to keep walking with them I would’ve paid double!! Every stop had a lesson and a laugh. The cook was incredible for our team and My partner! Incredible cooking team. Their communication with us was absolutely superb!

Salkantay 5 days with Tony & Efrain!

The BEST guided trek and amazing team. I could not recommend this trek enough and doing it through Trexperience. Our guide Tony was amazing, he had exceptional English, was very informative, looked after everyone so well and made the week very fun with lots of jokes and laughs! Our second guide Efrain was so lovely, very helpful and always making sure we were ok. The rest of the team including the chef Louis, were amazing. They worked so so hard and were always so happy to be there. I cannot praise the quality of food enough, it was delicious!! I am egg, dairy and gluten intolerant, and I never missed out, the chef always had something seperate prepared for me, and it was all so incredible!! So much delicious food and an all round amazing experience with incredible scenery!! If you’re booking a trek to Machu Picchu you MUST book this one, AMAZING!! (make sure you ask for Tony, Efrain and Louis - they are the best)

Short Inca Trail 2 Days to Machu Picchu

Peru is not the easiest country to travel so I highly recommend using a tour company like Trexperience. Good coordination efforts considering how popular this company is. They have an office in Cusco and are very responsive by email and WhatsApp. The short, 2 day Inca trail was perfect to get a good dose of the hike and not be too tired to enjoy Machu Pichu. It was not hard at all—8 mile total walk from the trail to Macchu Picchu and down to the buses. There is an elevation gain plus altitude so you must be in good health. I loved the end and taking the Vistadome—so fun!! I would recommend this to adults from 18-70. My friend brought her 10 year old and the trek was too hard. The guides helped a lot but it’s really not for small children. Thank you to Marco, Evan, and Daniel. They were very helpful.

Rainbow Mountain Tour and Red Valley Tour

My mother and I had an amazing time doing the Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley tour. Our guide Tairo and driver Charlie were such professionals and very warm individuals. They both took care of us even before the tour officially started. They were very attentive, and always checked on us to ensure we were comfortable throughout our tour. Tairo especially helped my elderly mother during some difficult parts of the hike, and assisted her when she had trouble getting on and off the horse we had rented! Despite the challenging trek, we were in good hands with the people TreXperience had assigned to us. My mother and I came home with incredible memories of our time in Peru. Thank you so much for such a world class tour experience!
